UNDERSTANDING INFERTILITY

Defining Infertility

Infertility is the failure of a couple to conceive a child after continuous efforts for at least a year. In primary infertility, pregnancy has never occurred. In secondary infertility, one or both members of the couple have previously conceived but are unable to conceive again after a full year of trying. In women over 35 years old, an evaluation is required after 6 months of unprotected intercourse.

40% of all infertility cases may be attributed to the woman. 40% can be attributed to man, 10% can be wherein both the partners contribute to the problem, and 10% of the time, the cause is not known and cannot be identified, and it is known as unexplained.
